Soon after beginning to quilt, I inherited eight of my grandmother's quilts. My grandmother Clara Ford was born December 12, 1892 and died May 20, 1966. She lived and quilted in Crossett, Arkansas. My mother was one of her six children. This site is dedicated to her memory,the preservation of her quilts and the preservation of antique quilts made by African Americans. I started quilting as a way to balance the stress in a high profile job. Along the way, I found my bliss. I love the notion of putting together pieces that may be ugly standing alone, but become gloriously beautiful when made a part of the whole. I love sharing my bliss by giving my quilts to others. I am a founding member of the Brown Sugar Stitchers Quilt Guild in Atlanta. The members are predominantly African American, and their unique view of color and style is a source of constant inspiration for me. I am the founder of the Clara Ford Foundation, a foundation that honors my grandmother's quilts.

African Sunrise: A Milestone

African Sunrise represents a milestone in the African Canvas Memory Quilt™ series. It is #25/100 in the series of 100 quilts, which means I am a fourth of the way there.

It measures 31x20 inches. The yellow sashing and binding give it a bright and sunny disposition. It has a teal batik with circles on the back.

It was finished in October, 2005.

African Rainbow Part Two is #24/100 of the African Canvas Memory Quilt™ series.

It measures 16 x 38 inches. It has red yellow and green fabric on the back. The binding and sashing are a red batik.

It is embellished with mud cloth and inspirational sayings.

African Circles

African Circles is #23/100 of the African Canvas Memory Quilt™ series. It measures 20x46 inches.

It is accented by pink sashing and binding. Green circle fabric is on back. It was finished in September, 2005.

African Rainbow Part One

African Rainbow Part One is #22/100 of the African Canvas Memory Quilt™ series. It measures 20 x 30 inches.

It has red, yellow, green fabric on back and the sashing and binding are green with yellow stars.
